COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Software Development degree is structured to build skills progressively over three years, combining theoretical understanding with hands-on practice. In Year 1, students gain a strong foundation in core computing principles, starting with Algorithms and Programming Concepts, Software Development, and Computer Architecture and Operating Systems Design. They also explore Cloud and Cyber, providing an introduction to cloud technologies and cyber security, alongside Data and Distributed Systems, and Networks and Communications, which cover data management, communication protocols and distributed computing concepts. Year 2 advances these skills with modules such as Advanced Programming and Web Development, while also focusing on practical industry-relevant areas including Cloud Infrastructure and Design, Mobile Application Development, and Interface Design and User Experience. Professional Practice and Project Management equip students with workplace skills and project delivery expertise, preparing them for both collaborative and independent work. In Year 3, the focus shifts to more complex and innovative areas of development. Students study Developing with Frameworks, gaining knowledge of software frameworks and best practices, and Software Development and Artificial Intelligence, which explores AI integration in applications. The year culminates with a 40-credit Dissertation, allowing students to conduct an in-depth project that showcases their technical skills, problem-solving ability and creativity, preparing them for professional software development careers.
