COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling degree is structured to develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills across three years. In year one, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Adventures in Psychology 1 and 2, introducing key concepts in the discipline. Research skills are developed in Becoming a Researcher 1: Quantitative Methods and Becoming a Researcher 2: Qualitative Methods, while Core Counselling Skills and Pathways in Psychology and Counselling provide an introduction to therapeutic approaches and career directions. The Steps to Success 1 module supports academic and personal development. Year two deepens learning with Counselling Theory, Ethics and Personal Development, exploring major therapeutic models alongside ethical considerations and reflective practice. Developmental and Biological Psychology Across the Lifespan examines human growth, behaviour and biology, while Exploring Difference: A Quantitative Approach and Theory and Application of Qualitative Research Methods expand methodological expertise. Steps to Success 2 continues professional skills development. In the final year, Personal and Professional Perspectives in Counselling integrates advanced counselling practice with self-awareness, while the Personalised Psychology Portfolio allows students to showcase skills and experiences. The Psychology Project provides an opportunity for independent, evidence-based research. Society and the Mind examines social, cultural and cognitive influences on behaviour, and Steps to Success 3 completes the personal and professional growth pathway, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for further training or employment.
