COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree is structured over three years, combining academic study with practical training to prepare students for a policing career. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in key policing concepts, developing Academic Study Skills alongside learning about Information and Intelligence, Core Policing Principles, Crime and Crime Prevention, Investigation, and Response Policing. This stage introduces the essential procedures, legal frameworks, and operational skills needed for frontline work.In Year 2, the focus shifts to more specialised areas of policing. Students explore the impact of technology and online crime in Policing in a Digital Age, address safeguarding and public protection in Policing Vulnerability, and advance their investigative skills through Professionalising Investigation. Professionalising Policing develops leadership and operational standards, while Research Methods equips students with the ability to analyse and apply evidence-led practices. Roads Policing introduces students to the enforcement of traffic laws, collision investigation, and public safety on the roads.Year 3 consolidates knowledge with an Evidence-Based Research Project, allowing students to apply critical thinking to a real policing issue. Modules in Policing and Society and Policing Complexity address contemporary challenges such as organised crime, terrorism, and multi-agency collaboration. Finally, Policing in Practice bridges academic study with real-world application, preparing graduates with the operational readiness, critical insight, and professional competence to serve effectively in modern policing.
