COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree provides a structured blend of theoretical learning, practical skills, and extensive clinical experience to prepare students for a career as a registered paramedic. In the first year, students focus on core foundations of paramedic practice, gaining 120 credits in Applied Clinical Practice alongside modules in communication, professional development, clinical assessment, pharmacology, and acute care. They also explore inclusive pre-hospital care and develop non-technical skills through simulation-based training. The second year builds on this foundation with Applied Clinical Practice 2 and advanced modules in clinical assessment, disease mechanisms, and pharmacology specific to paramedic work. Students learn to apply evidence-based care, address inclusivity in pre-hospital settings, and manage pre-hospital trauma and incidents. This stage also enhances technical and non-technical skills through emergency trauma simulations, ensuring readiness for real-world challenges. In the final year, Applied Clinical Practice 3 is complemented by modules on managing complex care needs and minor conditions, principles of patient safety, and paramedic-specific best practices. A substantial research in healthcare practice project allows students to contribute to the field’s evidence base. Across all years, clinical placements form an integral part of the learning experience, offering hands-on exposure in varied emergency care environments and preparing graduates for the demands of frontline paramedic roles.
