COURSE CURRICULUM

The Adult Nursing degree is structured to provide extensive practical and theoretical training over three years, preparing students to become competent and confident nursing professionals. In the first year, students undertake core modules such as Adult Nursing Care and Professional, Legal and Ethical Considerations, alongside multiple Adult Nursing in Practice placements. These placements give students hands-on experience working directly with patients, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in real clinical environments. The focus is on developing foundational nursing skills, understanding mental and physical health across the lifespan, and beginning to navigate professional responsibilities.In the second year, students continue with more advanced Adult Nursing in Practice placements, deepening their clinical expertise. Additional modules include Altered Mental Health and Physical Health Through the Lifespan, Human Factors covering risk and decision-making, and Physical Assessment and Preparation for Prescribing. These areas prepare students to handle complex patient needs, make informed clinical decisions, and develop competencies in assessing patients and understanding prescribing principles, which are vital for advanced nursing roles.The third year emphasizes consolidation and mastery of nursing skills, with continued Adult Nursing in Practice placements that allow students to take on greater responsibility and leadership within clinical settings. Modules such as Peer Learning and Teaching in Professional Nursing Practice encourage collaboration and mentorship, helping students develop communication and leadership abilities. The Evidence-Base for Practice module focuses on critical appraisal and application of research to inform nursing care. Throughout the course, the balance between rigorous academic study and extensive practical placements ensures that graduates are well-prepared for registration and professional practice, able to deliver high-quality care in diverse healthcare environments.
