COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree is structured to develop strong foundational skills in computing before advancing to specialised and applied areas. In Year 1, students begin with Algorithms and Programming Concepts, learning core coding principles, and Software Development, which builds practical programming skills. Cloud and Cyber introduces cloud computing and cybersecurity essentials, while Computer Architecture and Operating Systems Design covers the interaction between hardware and system software. Data and Distributed Systems focuses on database concepts and distributed computing, and Networks and Communications explores network structures, protocols, and connectivity.In Year 2, the course advances to more applied topics. Cloud Infrastructure and Design develops the ability to design and manage scalable cloud solutions, while Data Analytics teaches techniques for extracting insights from data. Hardware, Micro-Controllers and Sensors introduces embedded systems and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Interface Design and User Experience focuses on creating intuitive, user-friendly digital products. Professional Practice and Project Management prepares students for the workplace, enhancing skills in teamwork, communication, and delivering projects effectively.Year 3 allows for specialisation and independent work. Computer Graphics covers visual computing and graphics programming, while Data Science and Databases advances knowledge in large-scale data handling and analysis. Negotiated Studies provides flexibility to explore a chosen area of interest, and the Dissertation serves as a capstone project, allowing students to conduct substantial independent research or development work.
