COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering program is structured over three years, combining theoretical foundations with practical applications to prepare students for diverse engineering careers. In the first year, students build a solid base in core engineering principles through modules such as Applications of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Engineering Design and Practice, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Thermofluids, and Engineering Professional Development. Mathematical skills are developed through Engineering Mathematics 1, offered in A-Level and non-A-Level streams to cater to different entry backgrounds. The focus is on understanding the essential concepts of mechanics, thermofluids, and design while developing problem-solving and professional skills. In the second year, students advance their technical expertise with modules including Control System Analysis, Engineering Mathematics 2, and Mechanical Design and Structures. They also explore manufacturing processes and quality assurance through the Manufacturing Systems and Quality Management module, while Engineering Product Commercialisation introduces aspects of bringing innovations to market. The Sustainability Group Project fosters teamwork and addresses modern engineering challenges related to environmental responsibility. In the third year, the program emphasizes specialist and advanced topics such as Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics, Modern Power Plant Technologies, and Manufacturing Technology and Operations. Structural Analysis and Finite Element Analysis deepen understanding of complex structures and computational modelling. The year culminates in a substantial Engineering Project worth 40 credits, allowing students to apply their accumulated knowledge to a real-world problem, often linked to industry needs. By integrating design, analysis, manufacturing, and sustainability throughout all stages, the course equips graduates with the technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and practical skills required to thrive in mechanical engineering roles across multiple sectors, including energy, manufacturing, and product development.
