COURSE CURRICULUM

The Product, Furniture, and Ceramics degree is structured to progressively develop your design and making skills across three years through a series of compulsory modules. In the first year, you will focus on foundational subjects such as Design for Industry, Material Investigation, Studio Skills, and Visualisation. These modules aim to build a strong base in understanding materials, processes, and basic design techniques while fostering your ability to communicate ideas visually. Visualisation is taught in two parts, allowing you to gradually enhance your skills in representing your concepts effectively.In the second year, the curriculum advances to more specialized and applied learning. You will continue with Design for Industry but at a higher level, and gain deeper insights into Design for Manufacture, which covers the practical aspects of producing designs at scale. Additionally, you will study Identity and Context, which explores how design interacts with culture, society, and user needs, and Visualisation 3, further refining your technical skills in visual representation. These modules aim to bridge creativity with practical application, preparing you to design products that are both innovative and manufacturable.The final year emphasizes advanced design projects and career preparation. Design for Industry 3 focuses on a comprehensive approach to design, synthesizing your accumulated knowledge and skills. Graduate Futures prepares you for entering the professional world, focusing on employability and career development. The Major Project is a substantial piece of independent work, allowing you to specialize and demonstrate your expertise through a significant design challenge. The module People, Place and Society encourages you to consider the wider social and environmental impact of design. This three-year curriculum ensures a thorough grounding in design theory and practice, equipping you with the skills and experience necessary for a successful career in product, furniture, or ceramics design.
