COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status program at the university is structured to provide a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience across three years. In the first year, students focus on foundational subjects such as professional studies with an emphasis on reflection and problem-solving, safeguarding and child protection, and gaining a solid understanding of both the primary core and foundation curricula. Alongside these academic modules, students embark on their first teaching placement, known as "The Emerging Teacher," which introduces them to real classroom environments and early teaching experiences.In the second year, the curriculum advances with a focus on inclusion and inclusive practices, critical understanding and application of the primary core and foundation curricula, and further development of professional competencies through critical analysis. The second teaching placement, "The Developing Teacher," builds on the practical experience gained in the first year, encouraging students to apply their growing skills in classroom settings with more responsibility and reflection.The final year deepens the focus on contemporary issues in primary education and includes an independent research project or dissertation that allows students to explore a topic of interest in depth. Professional studies continue to develop with an emphasis on teacher identity and research-informed practice. The third teaching placement, "The Established Teacher," prepares students for full professional teaching roles by providing extensive hands-on experience. The academic modules also cover systematic and conceptual understanding of the primary core and foundation curricula to ensure that students graduate with a thorough grasp of the essential knowledge required for primary education. This carefully balanced program prepares graduates to confidently enter the teaching profession equipped with both practical skills and academic expertise.
