COURSE CURRICULUM

The Illustration degree provides a comprehensive learning journey across three years, combining creative exploration, technical skills, and professional development to prepare students for diverse careers in visual communication. In year one, students build foundational abilities through modules such as Animation Principles, Drawing for Illustration, and two stages of Visual Exploration, which develop core artistic techniques, observational skills, and the ability to experiment with a range of media and styles. These modules encourage both traditional and digital approaches to image-making while fostering creativity and critical thinking. Year two focuses on applying these skills to more specialised and contextual areas. Modules such as Application and Narrative and Illustration and Communication allow students to develop storytelling abilities and explore the role of illustration in conveying messages and ideas. Research, Analysis and Context, along with Sustainability, Society and Impact, encourage a deeper understanding of how illustration interacts with cultural, social, and environmental issues, shaping the relevance and impact of creative work. In the final year, emphasis shifts to collaboration, innovation, and professional readiness. Co Creation modules provide opportunities for working on joint projects, while Creative Futures and the Research, Analysis and Communication Assignment prepare students for industry or postgraduate study. By graduation, students possess a refined personal style, a diverse professional portfolio, and the confidence to succeed in a competitive creative field.
