The Cartoon and Comic Arts degree is designed to develop students’ skills in both the artistic and narrative aspects of comics, preparing them for professional careers in a range of creative industries. In the first year, students build a solid foundation with modules like Comics in Motion, Drawing for Comics, Scene Development, and The Fundamentals of Cartoons and Comics, which focus on essential techniques and creative expression. The Unconventional Comics module encourages experimentation and pushes creative boundaries, helping students find their unique voice.In the second year, the course shifts towards industry-focused skills with modules such as Creative Writing for Comics, Finding Your Audience, Making and Marketing Comics, Professional Practice, and Visual Storytelling. These subjects equip students with knowledge about the business side of comics, marketing strategies, and audience engagement, while continuing to refine their storytelling and artistic skills. This combination ensures students understand both the creative and professional demands of the industry.The final year centers on preparing students for life after university, offering a module called Life After University, which supports career planning and professional development. The degree also includes a Negotiated program of Study, allowing students to tailor their learning through a minor project and a major project culminating in a degree show. This major project encourages students to showcase their best work and demonstrate the skills they have developed throughout the course. Additionally, the Research, Analysis, and Communication Assignment strengthens students’ critical thinking and communication skills, essential for success in the creative industries.Overall, the course provides a comprehensive blend of creative practice, professional development, and research, preparing students to thrive in diverse careers such as comic creation, editorial illustration, character design, and more.
