COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Water Resources Management program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a career as a water-focused environmental scientist, emphasizing the assessment and management of freshwater resources. Core modules develop both academic and technical expertise, preparing students for research and practical applications in environmental science. Students study freshwater ecosystems, exploring the physical, chemical, and biological processes that influence rivers, streams, and lakes, while also understanding water pollution and strategies to monitor and control contamination. The MSc research project enables independent investigation into relevant water management topics, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Optional modules provide specialized knowledge in areas such as biodiversity, restoration, and applied ecology, as well as river basin management and restoration, coastal and maritime engineering, flood modelling and mitigation, and sustainable resource management. Students can also develop advanced skills in Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis, including programming and consultancy applications. Through a combination of field-based learning, practical exercises, and exposure to professional practice, graduates gain a strong understanding of the socio-economic, regulatory, and scientific dimensions of water management. The program prepares students to assess human impacts on aquatic environments and contribute to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of freshwater resources at local, national, and global levels.
