COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Transportation Planning and Engineering: Operations equips students with a thorough understanding of transport system management and operation, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Core modules include logistics systems operations, which explores the management and coordination of goods and services across transport networks, and transport economics, which examines how economic principles can address sector challenges such as congestion and service inefficiencies. Transport data analysis and techniques develops the ability to interpret and apply transportation datasets, while transport modelling introduces state-of-the-art approaches to demand, network, and policy modelling. Transport management and safety focuses on optimizing the use of infrastructure through technology and operational strategies, and transport planning: policy and governance, alongside transport planning: practice, provides a comprehensive understanding of planning frameworks, policy-making processes, and practical applications of transport measures. Students also undertake an independent research project, allowing them to explore a relevant topic in depth, develop analytical and research skills, and produce a substantial piece of work. Optional modules allow further specialization, including highway and traffic engineering, railway engineering and operations, human factors in engineering, and transport, energy and the environment, enabling students to address technical, operational, and sustainability challenges in modern transport systems.
