COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Micro and Nanotechnologies combines core and optional modules to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of microscale and nanoscale systems, devices, and technologies. Core modules include Advanced Micro and Nanosystems, which covers sensors, actuators, and transducers, with practical exercises in construction and characterization, and Microfabrication, which introduces modern techniques for creating microstructures for electronics, optoelectronics, and other devices. Microsensor Technologies focuses on the principles of measurement systems and miniaturization, while Nanoelectronic Devices addresses key challenges in scaling transistors to the nanometer regime, including high-k dielectrics and FINFETs. Research Methods and Project Preparation equips students with the skills needed to plan and execute their MSc Project and Dissertation, where they undertake in-depth, supervised research in their specialist area. Optional modules allow further specialization, including Green Electronics, Medical Electrical and Electronic Technologies, Microfluidics and Lab-on-a-Chip, Nanofabrication and Microscopy, Optical Sensors, and Quantum Devices and Technology. These options enable students to explore energy-efficient electronics, medical devices, microfluidic applications, nanoscale fabrication and imaging, optical sensing, and quantum technologies. Together, the modules provide a balance of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research experience, preparing graduates for careers in industry or academic research in micro and nanotechnology, electronics, and related fields.
