COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering Science (AMES) offers a comprehensive curriculum combining core and optional modules to develop expertise in mechanical, electrical, and mechatronic engineering. Core modules include Active Control of Sound and Vibration, which introduces the physics and methods of modifying system responses using secondary actuation, and Advanced Electrical Systems, covering power electronics, machine design, and applications in renewable energy, robotics, and marine propulsion. Control and Instrumentation focuses on classical and modern control theory for linear time-invariant and discrete-time systems, while Introduction to Advanced Mechanical Engineering Science provides foundational knowledge across six themes, including mechatronics, propulsion, computational design, and biomedical engineering. The MSc Research Project allows students to conduct independent, original research, supported by Research Planning and Management, which equips students with the skills to plan, execute, and communicate professional research effectively. Optional modules enable students to specialize in areas such as Advanced Computational Methods, Advanced Photovoltaics, Fuel Cells and Batteries, Renewable Energy Applications, Automotive Propulsion, Finite Element Analysis, Robotic Systems, Tribology, and Sensors and Condition Monitoring. Together, these modules provide a balance of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research experience, preparing graduates to pursue advanced careers in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, energy systems, and related fields.
