COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Advanced Computational Engineering in Maritime Engineering at the University of Southampton equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in maritime engineering, computational modeling, and related fields. Core modules include Applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics, where students learn numerical methods, grid generation, solvers, and turbulence models for practical engineering applications. Finite Element Analysis in Solid Mechanics provides tools for simulating complex structures, while Fundamentals of Maritime Engineering gives essential knowledge for subsequent study and professional practice. The MSc Research Project enables independent, original research, developing skills in methodology, analysis, and communication of results. Maritime Safety: Risk, Environment and Law covers regulatory, environmental, and risk considerations in engineering, and Professional Development for Maritime Engineers focuses on problem-solving, sustainable design, and professional skills. The Zero Carbon Ship Resistance and Propulsion module examines fluid dynamics and propulsion efficiency to minimize emissions and improve performance. Optional modules allow students to specialize further, including Advanced Finite Element Analysis, Design Search and Optimisation, Machine Learning, Marine Structures in Fluids, Maritime Robotics, Offshore Engineering and Analysis, Renewable Energy from Wind, Wave and Tide, and Turbulence.
