COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Internet of Things program provides a comprehensive foundation in designing, building, and securing connected systems. Core modules cover the essential components of IoT technology, beginning with the Foundations of Embedded IoT Systems, which introduces the architecture, devices, and software that connect sensors to cloud services. The IoT Networks module explores how devices communicate, focusing on protocols and network structures that enable data exchange. Students also study Secure Hardware and Embedded Devices, gaining insight into vulnerabilities and security mechanisms vital for protecting IoT systems. Research Methods and Project Preparation equip students with essential skills for planning and conducting independent research, which culminates in the MSc Project and Dissertation — an in-depth investigation into an IoT-related topic of their choice. Optional modules allow for specialisation in areas such as Biometrics, Cryptography, Embedded Processors, Machine Learning for Wireless Communications, and Mobile Applications Development. These modules expand knowledge of security, artificial intelligence, and software design within IoT systems. The program combines theoretical learning with practical application, enabling students to develop expertise in hardware design, network communication, and cybersecurity. Graduates are prepared for advanced roles in IoT innovation, research, and engineering across diverse sectors like smart cities, healthcare, and communications.
