COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Global Sociology provides students with a comprehensive understanding of social processes and challenges in a global context, combining theoretical learning with practical research skills. Core modules such as Designing Research: Epistemology and Methodology in Practice equip students with the knowledge to plan and execute research projects, from reviewing literature and formulating questions to selecting appropriate methods and analyzing data. The Dissertation module allows students to conduct an empirical study on a topic of their choice, applying qualitative or quantitative methods to investigate social phenomena critically. The Global Sociology module examines the effects of globalization on economic, social, and cultural relationships, considering how global interconnections influence local and international issues. Qualitative Methods develops skills in the design, collection, and analysis of qualitative data, while Social Challenges: Local and Global Action encourages students to engage with contemporary global issues, including digital technology, environmental crises, and social inequalities. Optional modules allow further specialization, covering areas such as AI in justice systems, applied statistical modelling, comparative public administration, international criminal justice, global terrorism, demographic change, and global health. By combining critical theory, research training, and applied knowledge, the program prepares graduates for careers in research, policy development, social analysis, and international organisations, providing the tools to understand and address complex global social challenges effectively.
