COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Global Marine Resources Management program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of marine environments and the skills needed for sustainable management. Core modules introduce biological, chemical, physical, and geological oceanography, covering topics from phytoplankton and energy flow in ecosystems to sedimentary processes, ocean basin formation, and the physical dynamics controlling water, heat, and salinity. Students also engage with research-focused modules modeled on the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology curriculum, which support the development of independent research skills through projects and dissertations. Key skills training equips students with the academic, technical, and professional capabilities required for success in marine science and resource management. Optional modules allow specialisation in advanced areas such as exploration geophysics in the marine environment, biogeochemical cycles within the Earth system, coastal morphodynamics, shelf seas and shelf edge dynamics, and computational data analysis using Python for oceanographic, meteorological, geophysical, and remote sensing data. Through this combination of theoretical knowledge, practical research experience, and technical skills, students gain the expertise needed to assess, manage, and protect marine resources effectively. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in marine science, environmental consultancy, policy-making, and sustainable resource management, as well as further academic research in ocean and Earth sciences.
