COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Energy Engineering with Electrical Power provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in designing, operating, and managing modern energy systems. Core modules cover fundamental principles of energy and power systems, including energy conversion, thermoelectric, electrochemical, and solar energy technologies. Students develop expertise in power generation, understanding current and future energy demands, societal impacts, and technological options. Power distribution, operation, and protection are also explored, with emphasis on specifying equipment and modelling power flows in transmission and distribution networks. The program integrates the study of power systems operation and economics, highlighting technical challenges, system management, and cost-effective decision-making. Research methods and project preparation equip students with the tools needed to undertake the MSc project and dissertation, allowing in-depth exploration of a specialist topic under supervision. Optional modules provide further opportunities to specialise in areas such as bioenergy, renewable energy from wind, wave, and tidal sources, high voltage insulation systems, mechanical power transmission and vibration, power electronics for DC transmission, and power system dynamics, stability, and control. Through this combination of theoretical study, applied learning, and research, graduates are prepared to enter a wide range of roles in the energy sector, equipped to address technical, economic, and environmental challenges in modern power systems.
