COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Digital Humanities combines critical humanities thinking with advanced data science methods, offering both core and optional modules to develop a balanced academic and practical foundation. Core modules include Principles of Humanities Data Science, which introduces justice-oriented approaches to data within feminist, climate, and racial frameworks; Methods in Humanities Data Science, which builds computational and analytical skills for working with humanities datasets; and the Digital Humanities Research or Professional Project, where students undertake either a dissertation or an industry-focused project guided by a supervisor. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests across diverse disciplines such as literature, philosophy, history, ethics, and cultural studies. Options include Text as Data, Data Management for Humanities Research, Philosophy and Ethics in Psychology and AI, Popular Fiction and Digital Culture, Global Cultural Heritage, and The Ethics of Climate Change. Students may also choose practical experiences through the Humanities Data Science Placement or modules in areas like Translation Technology, Digital Screen Cultures, or Organisational Ethics. Together, these modules equip students with analytical, ethical, and computational expertise, preparing them for research, policy, cultural, or digital sector roles where data-driven approaches intersect with humanistic understanding.
