COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Chemistry program combines advanced research, practical skills, and specialist study to equip students with expertise across a wide range of chemical disciplines. All students undertake an advanced research project, committing significant time to literature review, project planning, and hands-on laboratory work, culminating in a dissertation. Complementing this, the scientific writing and presentation skills module develops students’ ability to effectively communicate research findings in both written and oral forms. Students can choose from a diverse set of specialist modules tailored to their interests, covering areas such as advanced chemical biology, organic and physical chemistry, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and computational chemistry. The program also includes modules on emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in chemistry, battery materials and energy storage, and sustainable chemistry practices. Additional modules explore medicinal chemistry, mass spectrometry, macrocyclic and bio-inorganic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and stereoselective reactions, providing opportunities to engage with both theoretical concepts and practical applications. Ethics and social responsibility in scientific research are integrated to ensure awareness of the broader impact of chemical innovation. Through this combination of rigorous research, specialist coursework, and practical training, graduates develop the knowledge and skills required for careers in academia, industry, and research-focused roles.
