The MSc in Applied Coastal and Offshore Geoscience includes core modules that provide an in-depth understanding of coastal and marine processes, engineering, and environmental management. Modules such as Coastal Morphodynamics and Coastal Sediment Dynamics explore how waves, tides, and human interventions shape coastlines and influence sediment movement. Coastal and Maritime Engineering develops skills in designing and planning resilient coastal structures, while Flood Modelling and Mitigation focuses on predicting and managing flood risks, a growing global concern. Geotechnics for Geoscientists introduces the principles of soil mechanics essential for coastal and offshore engineering applications. Sea Level Rise and Coastal Management examines the effects of climate change on coastal systems and the development of sustainable adaptation strategies. Seafloor Exploration and Surveying provides hands-on experience in offshore data collection and analysis, using advanced tools and techniques relevant to modern marine industries. Students also complete an MSc Research Project, allowing them to conduct independent and original research on a relevant coastal or offshore topic, often linked to real-world challenges or active research initiatives. Together, these modules equip graduates with technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills essential for careers in coastal engineering, marine geoscience, environmental consultancy, and climate resilience planning.
