COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program includes a combination of core and optional modules designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in public policy, governance, and administration. Core modules such as Advanced Policy Analysis provide theoretical frameworks and analytical tools for evaluating policy decisions, using approaches like the rational model and evidence-based analysis. Comparative Public Administration introduces students to shared theoretical approaches and common challenges across different governance systems, while Issues in Contemporary Public Administration examines current debates and developments in the field. Public Ethics and Public Policy explores the moral dimensions of policy-making, and the MPA Capstone alongside the MSc Dissertation in Politics and International Relations enables students to undertake in-depth, independent research on topics of their choice, integrating skills acquired throughout the program. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, including ageing, health, and well-being, demographic change, development and international relations, international social policy, migration policy, population, poverty, and policy, and professional skills for navigating complex policy environments. Advanced qualitative research modules provide practical training in research methods, including ethnographic and social science techniques. Students may also study topics such as the political psychology of crises and conflicts. Together, these modules prepare graduates for careers in public administration, policy analysis, research, and international organisations, fostering expertise in both theoretical understanding and practical application of public policy.
