COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Global Literary Industries Management at the University of Southampton provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the literary and cultural sectors while developing practical and critical skills for careers in publishing, journalism, heritage management, arts writing, and related fields. In the first year, students study core modules such as Approaches to Critical and Creative Concepts, Communicating the Cultural Industries, Literary Industries and New Media, and the Final Project, which allow for independent study and integration of knowledge gained throughout the course. These modules introduce students to critical vocabularies, contemporary developments, and the dynamics shaping global literary cultures, including children’s literature, graphic novels, experimental writing, and popular genre fiction. In addition, students choose from optional modules such as Approaches to Literary Genres, Digital Forms, Global Cultural Heritage, Literature, Culture and Social Change, Narrative Non-Fiction, Narrative, Place, Identity, Nation, Culture, Power, Popular Fiction and Digital Culture, The Cultural Imagination of Management, The Publishing World, Themes in Modern British History, and Transnational Movement in the Age of Globalisation. These options allow students to tailor their learning according to interests and career goals. In the second year, the focus is on the Final Project, providing an extended period for independent research, critical analysis, and creation of a professional portfolio, consolidating skills and knowledge for future careers in literary and cultural industries.
