COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Fine Art course combines practical studio work with critical and theoretical engagement to develop students’ individual artistic practices. Core modules provide a comprehensive framework for experimentation, research, and professional experience. Critical Theory introduces key contemporary theoretical discourses that shape cultural and creative practice, while Methods of Artistic Research situates students’ practice within debates on the relationship between contemporary art and knowledge production. Studio Practice modules allow students to progressively develop their work, starting with experimentation in Studio Practice 1, consolidating and refining ideas in Studio Practice 2, and culminating in an independent, ambitious body of work for Studio Practice 3, which contributes to the MA Show. Professional and Collaborative Projects offer real-world experience, fostering practical skills and collaborative approaches in the arts. Elective modules allow students to tailor their learning and expand their creative and professional skills further. Options such as Creative Thinking and Problem Solving, Digital Cultures, Entrepreneurship, Experimental Publishing, Exploring the Visual Language of Display, Global Marketing, Sustainability in Business and Design, and Visual Culture provide opportunities to engage with interdisciplinary perspectives, contemporary debates, and professional practices. Together, these modules equip students with the ability to critically reflect, experiment, and present work confidently, preparing them for careers in creative industries, research, or further artistic development.
