COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Fashion Design course at the University of Southampton combines studio practice with critical and professional development to prepare students for successful careers in the fashion industry. Core modules include Contextual Practice, which deepens understanding of historical and contemporary fashion contexts while encouraging critical reflection on personal work, and Introduction to Design Principles, which promotes innovative and exploratory approaches to studio practice. Creative Experimentation: Pre-collection allows students to investigate new ideas and refine their individual fashion identity, while the Final Major Project requires the development and presentation of a cohesive collection demonstrating the full range of skills acquired throughout the program. Professional Attributes: The Fashion Industry and Professional Practice: The Company focus on entrepreneurial skills, employability, and collaborative, real-world project experience. Students also have the opportunity to choose from a range of elective modules tailored to enhance creative, technical, and professional expertise. These include Creative Thinking and Problem Solving, Digital Cultures, Entrepreneurship, Experimental Publishing, Exploring the Visual Language of Display, Global Marketing, Professional and Collaborative Projects, Sustainability in Business and Design, and Visual Culture.
