COURSE CURRICULUM

This international law degree provides a comprehensive foundation in English law while offering a year abroad to develop a global perspective. In the first year, students study core subjects including constitutional and administrative law, contract law, criminal law, environmental and international law, and legal system and reasoning, establishing essential knowledge and skills for legal practice. In the second year, students advance to equity and trusts, EU law and the UK-EU relationship, land law, and tort law, while selecting optional modules such as commercial and consumer law, employment law, family law, criminal justice, and public international law, allowing for specialization and broader understanding of legal systems. The third year is spent overseas at a partner institution, providing practical exposure to international legal contexts and fostering independence and cultural awareness. In the fourth year, students focus on legal research and writing through a 10,000-word dissertation and choose from advanced optional modules including admiralty law, international human rights law, commercial conflict of laws, company law, environmental justice, intellectual property, international commercial sales, globalisation and law, and theories of law and justice. Throughout the degree, students gain practical experience, develop research skills, and engage with contemporary legal issues, preparing them for careers in international law, policy, and legal practice.
