COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biosciences degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of biological principles, processes, and research skills across cellular, organismal, and ecological levels. In the first year, students study fundamental topics such as cell biology, physiology, biodiversity, and environmental interactions, alongside developing scientific thinking, experimental design, and critical analysis skills. Year two builds on this foundation with modules covering evolution, animal behaviour, vertebrate development and zoology, quantitative methods, and ecology, supplemented by practical field courses in diverse environments. Students can also select specialized modules in areas such as bioinformatics, conservation management, immunology, environmental microbiology, and freshwater ecosystems, enhancing both technical and analytical competencies. The final year focuses on independent research projects and advanced topics, allowing students to explore areas such as behavioural ecology, molecular and cellular neuroscience, plant and applied biology, biodiversity and conservation, global biological challenges, and disease biology. Options also include fieldwork, laboratory-based research, and bioinformatics projects, providing hands-on experience and skills for scientific investigation. Throughout the degree, students develop the ability to critically evaluate literature, communicate scientific findings, and apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems. Overall, the program equips graduates with a deep understanding of biological systems, research proficiency, and transferable skills for careers in science, conservation, biotechnology, and related fields.
