COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physiotherapy degree at Southampton provides a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required to become competent physiotherapists. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Physiotherapy Practice, and Principles of Physiotherapy Practice, alongside introductory professional practice and initial practice-based learning placements. Year two develops advanced clinical skills, focusing on patient engagement, long-term condition management, rehabilitation across the lifespan, and research methods, while offering additional practice-based learning placements to consolidate knowledge in real-world settings. In the final year, students further develop leadership and innovation skills, translate evidence into clinical practice, and complete a research project relevant to physiotherapy. Practice-based learning placements continue throughout the third year, providing extensive hands-on experience. Optional modules in the final year allow students to pursue professional development projects, prepare for on-call responsibilities, or engage in contemporary continuing professional development topics. Across all three years, the program emphasizes clinical reasoning, patient-centered care, empathy, and teamwork, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to transition into professional practice with confidence and competence in diverse healthcare settings.
