COURSE CURRICULUM

The children’s nursing degree is a three-year program designed to prepare students to provide expert and compassionate care for neonates, children, adolescents, and their families. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as applied physical health and pharmacology in children, health assessment and management of children and families, fundamentals of health and care across the life course, and introduction to professional practice. These are complemented by two practice placements and a portfolio module, allowing students to apply theoretical learning in clinical settings. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of public health, inclusion health, and care in clinical practice while continuing their professional development through two further practice placements, a portfolio, and a research methods module. The third year focuses on preparing students for professional practice and leadership, with modules in leadership and innovation in healthcare, student-led projects, and final practice placements supported by a portfolio. Students also have the option to specialise in primary care and community children’s nursing or urgent, unscheduled, and critical care. Throughout the program, students benefit from hands-on experience in diverse healthcare settings, including wards, intensive care units, emergency departments, outpatient clinics, and community services, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to transition successfully into registered children’s nursing roles.
