COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Midwifery program is designed to develop skilled, knowledgeable, and autonomous midwives capable of delivering safe, evidence-based care to women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. In year one, students study foundational modules including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal midwifery practice, holistic health promotion, professional practice, and core placement experiences that allow them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world clinical settings. Year two builds on this foundation, focusing on additional care needs for women and neonates, complex antenatal and intrapartum care, research methods, and an elective midwifery experience, alongside continued placement learning to strengthen practical skills and professional development. In year three, students consolidate their knowledge and clinical expertise through modules in autonomous midwifery practice, consolidating midwifery practice, and leadership and innovation in healthcare, emphasizing decision-making, professional responsibility, and adaptability in a changing healthcare environment. Placement experiences continue to provide immersive, work-based learning opportunities. Research skills are further developed through service evaluation, audits, empirical studies, or literature reviews, promoting evidence-based practice. Throughout the program, core modules ensure students meet Nursing and Midwifery Council requirements. Graduates are equipped with the clinical, professional, and leadership skills necessary to register as competent midwives and make a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of women, babies, and families.
