COURSE CURRICULUM

This mathematics BSc degree offers a comprehensive and flexible program covering pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and operational research, preparing students for careers in finance, industry, education, and research. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Calculus I and II, Computational Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Dynamics and Relativity, Statistics, and Core Skills for Mathematicians, complemented by workshops to develop practical understanding. In the second year, students advance into Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, and Core Skills II, while also choosing from a wide range of optional modules including Algorithms, Financial Mathematics, Geometry and Topology, Group Theory, Graph Theory, Numerical Analysis, and Stochastic Processes, allowing exploration of applied and theoretical topics. In the final year, students complete a Mathematics Project and select from advanced modules such as Actuarial Mathematics, Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Complex Analysis, Mathematical Finance, Machine Learning, Mathematical Biology, Relativity, Black Holes and Cosmology, Optimization, Hilbert Spaces, and the Structure and Dynamics of Networks. The course emphasises problem-solving, logical reasoning, computational skills, and practical applications, using software such as Python and R. Students gain exposure to cutting-edge research and mathematical techniques, enabling them to specialise in areas of interest or pursue a broad interdisciplinary approach, equipping them for diverse professional and academic paths.
