COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Mathematics with Statistics degree provides a comprehensive foundation in mathematics alongside specialized training in statistics and data science, preparing students for careers in industry, research, and government. In the first year, students build core skills in calculus, linear algebra, number theory, dynamics, relativity, computational mathematics, and statistics, establishing a strong mathematical base while developing problem-solving and analytical abilities. Year two expands these foundations with modules in analysis, partial differential equations, statistical inference, statistical modelling, and core skills for mathematicians, while offering optional modules in algorithms, financial mathematics, geometry and topology, fields and fluids, graph theory, group theory, numerical analysis, stochastic processes, and vector calculus. In the third year, the focus shifts toward advanced topics and practical applications, including computational statistical inference, machine learning, design and analysis of experiments, and a mathematics project, alongside options in actuarial mathematics, advanced fluid dynamics, complex analysis, number theory, mathematical finance, optimization, and mathematical biology. Students gain hands-on experience with computational tools such as Python and R and develop the ability to model and analyse real-world data. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, equipping graduates with strong analytical, statistical, and communication skills necessary for careers as statisticians, data analysts, or quantitative researchers across diverse sectors.
