COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Mathematics with Finance and Actuarial Science degree provides a comprehensive foundation in mathematics while incorporating essential topics from finance, economics, and actuarial science. In the first year, students study modules including Calculus I and II, Linear Algebra, Computational Mathematics, Statistics, and core skills for mathematicians, with optional modules in applied mathematics and economics, establishing a strong analytical and problem-solving base. In the second year, the curriculum progresses to advanced topics such as Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Financial Mathematics, Statistical Inference, and Statistical Modelling, with options in algorithms, data science, financial markets, and econometrics. This stage emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical applications, preparing students for complex mathematical and financial problems. In the final year, students complete a Mathematics Project, allowing independent research in a chosen area, while optional modules cover advanced topics including Actuarial Mathematics, Complex Analysis, Optimization, Machine Learning, Mathematical Finance, Mathematical Biology, Relativity and Cosmology, and various applied finance and risk management subjects. The degree equips students with the skills to model uncertainty, assess risk, and solve real-world problems using mathematics, statistics, and computational tools such as Python and R. Graduates are prepared for careers in finance, insurance, actuarial work, data analysis, and other sectors requiring quantitative and analytical expertise.
