COURSE CURRICULUM

This education degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of how theory, research, and practice intersect in education, preparing them to support learning and development across a variety of contexts. In the first year, students explore contemporary education issues, policies, and debates, gaining insight into both UK and international education systems, digital learning, statistical analysis, research methods, Special Educational Needs, and the roles of teachers in schools. Optional modules allow critical observation and analysis of primary, secondary, and early years education, as well as the historical and contemporary changes in the English education system. In the second year, students advance their knowledge through modules in research methods, curriculum design, cognitive psychology, internationalisation in education, adult learning, employability, and leadership and management in educational settings. These modules emphasize practical application, critical evaluation, and understanding diverse learning contexts. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation, developing and implementing an independent research project, and choose from advanced modules such as advanced research methods, exploring hidden assumptions in education, knowledge exchange, learning and teaching mathematics, social justice and inclusive education, and supporting additional learning needs. Throughout the degree, students develop skills in research, analysis, observation, and critical thinking, preparing them for careers in education, research, public sector work, or further academic study.
