COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Data Science degree is a three-year program designed to equip students with a combination of economic theory and advanced data science skills, preparing them for careers in finance, industry, and the public sector. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods, mathematics, and statistics, while also developing professional skills through modules like Economics Skills and Employability. They gain hands-on experience in experimental and data-driven economics, as well as computational mathematics. The second year focuses on applying these skills to real-world problems through modules such as Applied Econometrics, Econometrics with Big Data, Computational Economics, and Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Students also have the flexibility to choose optional modules including Development Economics, Dynamic Macroeconomics, Game Theory, Industrial Economics, and Introduction to Econometrics. In the final year, the emphasis is on advanced methods, including Advanced Econometrics with Machine Learning, Empirical Finance, and Applied Social Quantitative Analysis, alongside specialised topics like Behavioural Economics, Choice and Decision, International Trade, Labour Economics, and Public Economics. Students complete a dissertation through literature review and research projects, applying data science techniques to economic questions. This combination of rigorous economic training and data analysis expertise provides graduates with highly sought-after skills for roles in finance, policy, and analytics.
