COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Finance degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of economic theory, financial markets, and institutions, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in finance, banking, or economics. In the first year, students study core modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics for economics, statistics, financial accounting, management accounting, and introductory management and finance, alongside practical analytical and employability skills. They also have the flexibility to select additional modules such as foundations of microeconomics or principles of microeconomics. In the second year, students advance to intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, econometrics, applied econometrics, portfolio theory, financial management, and financial accounting, while optional modules include development economics, games, industrial economics, dynamic macroeconomics, and auditing and taxation. The third year focuses on professional and analytical skills, empirical finance, principles of finance, and a dissertation, with optional modules covering behavioural economics, behavioural finance, alternative investments, futures and options, international banking, international trade, labour economics, risk management, and financial analysis. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience using Bloomberg terminals in the Financial Laboratory and have opportunities to study abroad, undertake a year in employment, and participate in Student Innovation Projects, preparing them for successful careers in finance and economics.
