COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry with Computational Science degree offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build strong foundations in chemistry, mathematics, and programming. In year one, students study modules such as Foundations of Chemistry I and II, which introduce key concepts in structure, bonding, energetics, and chemical reactions. Mathematical and Analytical Methods in Chemistry I develops essential quantitative and analytical skills, while Practical Chemistry I provides hands-on laboratory experience with basic experimental techniques. In year two, advanced modules deepen understanding through Advanced Chemistry I and II, covering topics such as quantum mechanics, reaction mechanisms, and organometallic chemistry. Mathematical Methods in Chemistry II enhances problem-solving skills using advanced mathematical and numerical tools, and Introduction to Programming teaches students efficient coding practices relevant to chemical data analysis. Practical Chemistry II continues the development of laboratory expertise. In the final year, students focus on specialised and research-led topics through modules like Frontiers in Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry, as well as Simulation Methods in Chemistry, which applies quantum chemistry to predict molecular behaviour. Students also undertake Advanced Practical Skills in Chemistry and can choose from optional modules such as Medicinal Chemistry, Sustainable Chemistry, Electrochemistry, and Advanced Characterisation Techniques to tailor their expertise.
