COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Software Engineering degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of software development and engineering principles, preparing them to design, build, and maintain complex and reliable software systems. In the first year, students study foundational modules in algorithms, programming with Python, C, and Java, computer systems, networks and security, data management, and mathematics, alongside laboratory-based practical experience. This prepares them with essential technical skills and an understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and fundamental programming techniques. In the second year, the curriculum expands to include artificial intelligence, computer systems internals, formal specification and verification, advanced programming techniques, programming language concepts, software design and development projects, and the theory of computing, emphasizing both practical application and theoretical knowledge. In the final year, students complete a two-phase individual project, gaining in-depth practical experience in a specialized area of their choice. Optional advanced modules allow exploration of cutting-edge topics such as advanced computer architecture and networks, cloud application development, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotic systems, web and cloud security, computational biology, game design, and social computing techniques. The program equips graduates with strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills, preparing them for careers in software engineering, systems development, cyber security, AI, and emerging technology fields.
