COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemical Engineering BEng degree provides a comprehensive education in sustainable chemical engineering, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience and industry-relevant skills. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in engineering design, chemical principles, data science and computing, mathematics, mechanics, structures and materials, principles of chemical engineering, and thermofluids, preparing them for more advanced study. The second year focuses on core chemical engineering processes, including unit operations, particle technology, chemical reactions, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, process control and safety, practical operations and chemical analysis, and mathematics for engineering, emphasizing the design and optimisation of sustainable industrial processes. Students gain hands-on experience and develop analytical, problem-solving, and practical skills essential for chemical engineering. In the final year, the course advances into specialized areas such as advanced reaction engineering, biochemical and catalytic reactors, separation processes, and chemical engineering group design projects, allowing students to integrate and apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Optional modules include sustainable energy, pharmaceutical engineering, and urban water and wastewater engineering, giving students the opportunity to tailor their studies to industry needs. Professional development is emphasized through modules in safety management and professional aspects of chemical engineering, preparing graduates for successful careers in a range of industries including energy, food, pharmaceuticals, and biochemicals.
