COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Engineering degree combines biomedicine, electronics, and digital health to equip students with the skills needed to design, develop, and deliver innovative healthcare technologies. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules covering biomedical engineering principles, mathematics, programming, digital systems, sensor interfaces, and laboratory skills, with optional modules focusing on biomechanics, biological molecules, or electromagnetism. Year two deepens this knowledge with modules in algorithms, artificial intelligence, control systems, digital health, biomechanics, physiology, biomaterials, hardware and software design, signal processing, and statistical modelling. Students also explore biomechatronics, semiconductor devices, and fundamentals of cell biology, physiology, and anatomy. In the final year, students focus on advanced applications and integration through modules such as biosensors and diagnostics, machine learning technologies, robotic systems, real-time computing, embedded systems, computational biology, and system identification. They complete an extended individual project in two phases, gaining practical experience and independent research skills. Additional options allow study in areas including bioinformatics, advanced electronics, materials, neuroscience, mechanical systems, and global health. Throughout the degree, students combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory, simulation, and design experiences, preparing them to address complex challenges in healthcare technology, medical device development, and digital health innovation.
