COURSE CURRICULUM

The Acoustical Engineering degree provides a comprehensive three-year program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in sound, vibration, and their applications across diverse engineering fields. In the first year, students study foundational modules including Acoustical Engineering, Engineering Design, Electrical and Electronics Systems, Mathematics for Engineering, and ThermoFluids, which establish essential technical knowledge and analytical abilities. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced modules in Acoustics, Audio and Signal Processing, Electronics and Control, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics, Machines and Vibration, Engineering Management and Law, Systems Design, and further mathematics. These modules enhance students’ understanding of complex systems, control processes, and engineering management practices. In the final year, students focus on specialist areas through modules such as Acoustical Engineering Design, Noise Control Engineering, Human Responses to Sound and Vibration, and an Individual Project, allowing them to integrate and apply their learning. Optional modules including Aeroacoustics, Architectural and Building Acoustics, Active Control of Sound and Vibration, Electroacoustics, and Biomedical Applications offer opportunities to specialise in fields like transport, architecture, medical engineering, and signal processing. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience in labs, workshops, and design projects, preparing them for professional roles in acoustic consultancy, research, and engineering industries where sound and vibration are critical.
