COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) degree provides a structured three-year curriculum designed to develop analytical, ethical, and practical skills across its three disciplines. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in economics, politics, and philosophy, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, ethics, political ideas, and epistemology. Optional modules allow exploration of British politics, international relations, modern political thought, and mathematics for economics. The second year focuses on intermediate economic theory, applied econometrics, and the philosophical dimensions of decision-making, wellbeing, and fairness, while offering a broad range of optional modules such as global sustainability, development economics, Chinese politics, democratic theory, ethics of war, and data analysis. Students are encouraged to engage with experimental and qualitative research methods, public opinion, and political ethics. In the third year, students consolidate professional and research skills through employability modules and dissertations in economics, politics, or philosophy. Advanced options allow study of topics including international trade, finance, business ethics, AI and psychology, philosophy of gender, crime and punishment, and global policy issues. Across all three years, the course integrates theoretical learning with practical application, preparing students for diverse careers in government, policy, research, and related fields while cultivating critical, reflective, and interdisciplinary thinking.
