COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Economics and Philosophy program provides a comprehensive foundation in both disciplines while equipping students with practical skills for professional and academic success. In the first year, students study core modules including Economics Skills and Employability, Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Statistics for Economics, Ethics, Reason and Argument, and Truth, Knowledge, and Objectivity. These modules develop analytical, reasoning, and employability skills, alongside an understanding of moral philosophy and economic principles. Students also select optional modules covering applied ethics, epistemology, faith and reason, sustainability, and interdisciplinary areas such as linguistics, ethnography, and art, allowing them to tailor their learning to personal interests. In the second year, students advance to intermediate macroeconomics and microeconomics, applied econometrics, and specialized philosophy modules exploring political and ethical concepts, welfare, rationality, and global issues. Optional modules provide further exploration of sustainability, globalisation, industrial economics, and cultural studies. In the third year, students focus on applied economics, international macroeconomics, and employability skills, while undertaking a dissertation in economics or philosophy, developing independent research and critical thinking abilities. Elective modules offer in-depth study in areas including finance, labour markets, public economics, political economy, ethics, and philosophy of mind, ensuring graduates emerge as well-rounded, analytically capable, and ethically informed individuals, prepared for careers in economics, policy, and related fields.
