COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Music and Business Management degree combines a comprehensive music curriculum with the study of business management, preparing students for careers in the creative industries and beyond. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in accounting, finance, management, and business in society, alongside core music modules covering music history, performance, composition, and contextual studies. Practical skills are developed through individual tuition, ensemble work, workshops, and public performance opportunities. Students may also explore digital technologies in business and their applications in music and the wider commercial world. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of human resource management, decision-making, and philosophical approaches to organisations, while continuing to enhance their performance and composition skills through recitals and modules such as digital sound and songwriting. Opportunities to study abroad or gain workplace experience provide international and professional perspectives. The third year focuses on advanced music and business integration, with modules on film music composition, cultural economics, strategic management, technological innovation, and community music practice with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Students also undertake an independent research project, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills to a topic of interest. This interdisciplinary degree equips students with creative, technical, and professional expertise essential for success in both music and business.
