COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Design course offers a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that develops creative, technical, and professional skills essential for success in the games industry. In Year 1, students explore the fundamentals of game creation through modules such as Game Mechanics, Game Worlds, and Games as Poems. These modules introduce the principles of gameplay design, creative world-building, and experimental approaches to game development, combining theory with practical projects and workshops. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more advanced design and development practices. Students engage in modules like Games Design, Games Development Pipelines, and Games Development Process, where they learn to create detailed design documentation, plan production workflows, and develop interactive prototypes that demonstrate gameplay depth and market understanding. There is also an option to gain international experience through the Year Abroad or practical exposure through the Year in Employment. In the final year, students undertake major projects, including Game Pitching and Presenting, Game Project Proposal, and Major Project – Unique Impact Games, where they create, market, and showcase a fully realised game. Professional Planning (Games Industry) prepares students for employment by offering insights from industry experts and helping them develop the skills and confidence to succeed in the competitive gaming field.
