COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Fine Art degree offers a progressive journey through contemporary art practice, combining creative experimentation with professional development. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Contested Terrains and Myth, Illusion and The Virtual, exploring diverse materials, techniques, and ideas that shape modern artistic expression. Studio Practice 1A and 1B further develop technical ability, conceptual thinking, and self-directed creativity. The second year expands on this foundation with modules like Expanded Fields and Invisible Objects, encouraging students to experiment with large-scale works, performance, and digital media. Studio Practice 2B deepens engagement with interdisciplinary methods, while opportunities for a Year in Employment or a Year Abroad provide valuable real-world and international experience. In the final year, students focus on professional practice and the realisation of their artistic identity. Modules such as Studio Practice 3A and the Final Major Project support the creation of a resolved body of work for public exhibition. Framing Your Project and Strategies of Showing emphasise curatorial thinking, presentation, and audience engagement, while Professional Planning prepares students for careers in the creative industries. Together, these modules cultivate independent, critically engaged artists with strong creative, conceptual, and professional skills.
