COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Performance Football Coaching course provides an in-depth exploration of both the theoretical and practical aspects of elite football coaching across two years of study. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in pedagogy and contemporary learning theories, learning to apply these concepts in various football environments. Modules focus on the coach’s role in fostering psychological development in players, while also promoting self-awareness and personal psychological growth for coaches themselves. Students examine curriculum design and contemporary approaches to player development, critically evaluating training and playing programs to enhance skill acquisition and performance. In the second year, students engage in advanced coaching practice, including UEFA A-level principles, where they gain a critical understanding of coaching processes, styles, and feedback techniques. Effective coaching is reinforced through video analysis, self-reflection, and performance evaluation. Leadership and organisational factors in sport are examined, alongside periodisation strategies to optimise player development and manage transitions within training programs. Students also develop tactical understanding and football recruitment skills through performance analysis modules. Research methodology is integrated, enabling students to critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative approaches in sport science. The year culminates in a research project, allowing students to conduct an empirical study, report, or resource, demonstrating both scholarly insight and practical application within football coaching.
