COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology program provides an in-depth exploration of advanced renewable energy systems and sustainability practices through a diverse set of modules. Hydro, Tidal, Wave and Wind examines the principles and mechanical aspects of these renewable technologies, showing how analytical methods can be applied across different systems. Solar, Heat, and the Grid addresses the challenges of integrating renewable electricity with power, heat, and transport demands in an increasingly interconnected energy landscape. Bioprocesses for a Circular Economy focuses on the evolution of biorefineries, covering processes from waste management and anaerobic digestion to biohydrogen, biomethanation, and bioplastics as sustainable resource recovery solutions. Industrial Resource Recovery investigates thermo-chemical methods, including pyrolysis, waste gas upgrading, water production, and incineration, to recover valuable resources. Hydrogen Energy evaluates the role of hydrogen as a clean and efficient energy source, with potential to transform global energy supply. Energy and Environmental Legislation and Policy examines the legal and policy frameworks driving clean energy, conservation, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. Finally, the dissertation allows students to undertake a substantial research project within the Sustainable Environment Research Centre, often linked with industry-funded projects, providing valuable experience and ensuring the work has real-world industrial relevance.
